Best Driving Roads: Route 89 Jackson, Wyoming

Route 89 in Jackson, Wyoming is one of Americas most scenic and best driving roads. Easily accessible from the town of Jackson you can head north to Bridger-Teton National Forest and Yellowstone National Park.  Headed North from town you’ll see the Teton Mountains on your left.  The mountains are truly majestic and awe-inspiring.

Route 89 is nearly perfectly paved and though we visited in the winter months, the road was still clear of snow and had no salt or sand on it, leading to a very enjoyable drive.  No question that the summer months could lead to an outstanding sports car driving experience.  As noted in our video, we think it’s possible to run well over 150mph on this route, if you have the nerve to do so.  At the same time, this is more of just a cruising road and one in which to enjoy the scenery.  Additionally, you MUST be aware of the wildlife that abounds in this region.  Elk, bison, bear, deer and other forms of large wildlife can be encountered on any part of the highway, so it’s important to respect that.

Following is a brief video we captured while driving Route 89 just south of Teton National Forest:

If you every have the chance to drive this road we highly recommend visiting Dornan’s Restaurant which is just off of Moose Junction.
