Sunday July 27 was an historic day for sports car enthusiasts and motor sports as a whole. Monticello Motor Club (MMC), a private country club / race track and resort with a massive 4.2 mile track exclusive to member opened in Thompson, New York. Mario Andretti and Brian Redman lead a procession of member cars on a 2 lap innaugural racetrack tour. Andretti drove his John Player Special sponsored Formula 1 Lotus and Brian Redman commanded the Blue and Orange Gulf Livery Porsche 908 . A helicopter took footage of the entire event.
Drinks and hors d’ouvres were served in the temporary clubhouse overlooking the parking lot which was PACKED with the most impressive track-ready automobiles. Rain threatened the ribbon cutting, but held out until a couple of laps were completed. (more…)
The third and final day of the New England Concours put together the actual Concours level cars on the 9th Hole of the Stratton Mountain Golf Club course for the big show. Great weather and a scenic golf course setting put all attendees in a great mood for prepping and showing wonderful cars in their very best condition. There were makes and models ranging from the 1914 Mercer all the way to the early Porsche 911’s. Classes entered into the Concours were Early American, Closed and Open, mid-century American, Closed and Open, Muscle Cars, European, Preservation, Chrysler, Classic Trucks and Ford Model T’s. Day 2 at the New England Concours d’Elegance saw cruise-in participants show up in droves to Stratton Mountain’s upper parking areas. Classic cars including Chrysler Letter Series, Porsche 911’s, MG’s, and many rare cars were on display. Cars were parked on top of the main parking garage and food was catered by Stratton. Chairs were folded out behind the cars and owners and spectators exchanged stories and information on cars of all makes and models. Each car has a story and all owners at cruise-in events are proud to display dossiers and discuss how and where they found their cars, and how and when they were restored or preserved in great condition. The Second Annual New England Concours d’Elegance kicked off at noon on Friday, July 18th at Hemmings Motor News’ Headquarters in Bennington, Vermont with a general attendee cruise-in. By 1PM, a smattering of classic American cars, muscle cars, and European classics and sports cars filled the back parking-lot of Hemmings. After viewing and chatting each other up, attendees were invited to lunch mid-day and popcorn at the museum.
At 3pm cruise-in cars lined up for the Green Mountain Rally to go up historic Route 7A through covered bridges from Bennington to Manchester and on to Stratton Mountain where Saturday’s major cruise-in, and Sunday’s Concours were held.

The American Le Mans Series came to Lime Rock for the July 12, Northeast Grand Prix in Lakeville Connecticut. The race was action packed with drivers jockeying for position from start to finish on a revamped course. Spectator turnout to the Grand Prix was larger than ever filling both the infield and the outfield with colorful umbrellas and American Flags, still the cozy intimacy of Lime Rock’s paddock area was not lost. It was bound to be a special race; Dyson Racing was celebrating 25 years in motorsports by doing a lap in the Dyson Porsche 962 (Driven by Rob Dyson), flanked by the Porsche RS Spyder (Driven by Chris Dyson).
